Munich/Ratingen. The number of children under three years of age who are looked after in day-care facilities is increasing all the time. In March 2010, 472,000 boys and girls in this age group were looked after in nurseries, which is 55,000 more than in the previous year. This means that the national quota of children entering day care has risen by 2.7% to 23.1%. At the same time, the need for space and equipment is growing. The economic stimulus package II, which is aimed at improving the educational infrastructure, has led to welcome attempts to encourage new buildings and modernisation of older ones.
For health professionals, architects, planners and operators, the child-friendly design of sanitary facilities is particularly important. Educators state that learning about hygiene is an important part of general education. User-friendly wash places and WCs make it easy for carers to fulfil this requirement even in the pre-school years. Experience shows that the cleaner and more appealing the facility, the more willing people are to maintain the pleasant atmosphere by behaving in an appropriate way.
At BAU 2011 in Munich, Keramag presented a unique range for this particular field of application, comprising special washbasins and WCs for small children. This includes the original ‘lion’s paw’ WC, which enables small users to support themselves using the feet. This is complemented by tailor-made washing facilities made from the easy-to-clean but robust mineral material Varicor, which is available in almost 40 different shades. In all standard white shades, it can reduce the number of germs by 99.9% and is therefore classed as antibacterial in accordance with the JIS Z standard.
The play and wash landscape 4Bambini is a pioneering educational concept that can be used by children of different heights at the same time and sets new benchmarks in terms of playful interaction with water. The facility can also be supplied with special sensor taps.
All products meet the relevant VDI guideline 6000. The ceramic objects are also available with the dirt-repellent KeraTect glaze. The manufacturer’s experience in providing for nurseries and schools spans several decades, meaning that all the basic prerequisites necessary for ensuring economical operation, as well as function, comfort, hygiene, design, a long service life, ease of cleaning and reduction in water consumption, are already in place. Planning, design and service are carried out by local sanitary dealers.
