Munich/Ratingen. In view of constantly rising costs, the amount of water used by sanitary facilities is increasingly coming under the spotlight. The waterless urinal Centaurus, which Keramag presented at BAU 2011 in Munich, opens up new and previously untapped potential for savings.
According to sample cost calculations based on average values, savings of over 400 euros per year can be achieved with waterless urinals in comparison to conventional products. This means that acquisition and installation costs will pay for themselves within less than two years. Over the subsequent period, the costs for fresh and waste water will amount to a net reduction, which means that a sanitary facility with 10 urinals and a remaining operational life of 13 years can achieve a reduction of over 50,000 euros.
The innovative system technology of Centaurus fulfils the highest standards of hygiene and functional safety. The basis that underpins this highly effective principle is the unique LGA-tested siphon trap: a special membrane that allows liquids to drain completely and then closes immediately. No chemicals or electricity are required, meaning that this urinal has economic as well as environmental benefits.
Centaurus is offered in two versions: one with purely waterless operation and one for hybrid use with and without water flush. The unique hybrid urinal has a cleaning nozzle that uses less than 1 l of water per flush and ensures optimal hygiene even when installed in highly frequented facilities, such as those in football stadiums. This is made possible thanks to the intelligent urinal flush system Flushcontrol 1000/1000N, for example. This enables time-controlled hygienic flushes at 2-, 4-, 8-, 12-, 18- or 24-hourly intervals that can be adjusted on site. This also has the advantage that the urinal can mainly be operated without water, but regularly flushed at pre-defined intervals, which improves the level of hygiene and also saves a considerable amount of water. Individual flushes set to occur at precise times are also possible with the alternative flush system FlushTimeControl with automatic time control. A magnetic valve and control unit for up to eight Centaurus urinals can be installed, which ensures a perfect hygienic flush. An additional magnetic valve enables eight additional Centaurus urinals to be controlled using the same control unit.
Centaurus was awarded the red dot award by the NRW Design Centre, proving that it also sets new standards in terms of its design. The combination of a high, angular body with a round splashback provides a puristic, timeless and modern look for this often overlooked aspect of WC facilities. The 370-mm-wide, 710-mm-high and 330-mm-deep urinal body is made from high-quality sanitary ceramic.
When it comes to ease of cleaning, Keramag also hits all the right notes. Centaurus has no rim, which means hidden deposits cannot build up. In addition, the urinals come with the extremely smooth, non-porous and long-lasting special KeraTect glaze as standard, which prevents dirt from building up. For the KeraTect glaze, which is fired at 1,200 degrees, the manufacturer offers a 30-year guarantee. In contrast to waterless urinals, which are cleaned using chemicals, Centaurus can be cleaned on a daily basis using just water.
This generation of urinals is ideal for problem-free exchange with traditional models when renovating. Existing connections can be covered using the special multiple-connection fixings without damaging tiles. The patented Kerafix fixing system enables easier installation.
